In Memory of Ruth Miller
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Mrs. Ruth Miller. After working at the library for over 30 years, Mrs. Miller became our unofficial First Lady; certainly, she was the most recognized face of the library and oh, what a lovely face it was!
Originally a member of our circulation desk staff, for the past several years, Mrs. Miller held court at her very own desk in the Adult Fiction area of the library. She chose books for the homebound and ordered most of the library’s new fiction, but it was her expertise as our Adult Reader’s Advisor that proved invaluable. A voracious reader, her literary opinion became so sought after, we created a bookcase of her picks for patrons to choose from when she was personally unavailable.
Beyond this, Mrs. Miller possessed the special gift of remembering people’s individual preferences; be it tales of the sea, political dramas, romance, a great mystery or a favorite author; she was always sure to let the person know when a particular book came along that she felt they would enjoy. Although ill for some time, Mrs. Miller was the very definition of grace under pressure, continuing to report to work for as long as she could and giving helpful advice to those who sought it. Happily, her job brought her joy and comfort.
For those of us who were lucky
enough to have known her well, she will be remembered not only for her impeccable taste, manner and style, but for her unique personality, courage and wit.
She was, and will always remain,
simply irreplaceable.

Of course, we also thank all those who donated material and/or purchased material at the book sale! Your generosity and continuous support is much appreciated.
